From 15 november 2025 to 4 january 2026. In this exhibition, the works of Susana Solano and Jorge Satorre enter into close dialogue and resonance with the unique context of the Grand Verre space at the MÉCA and its proximity to the Garonne River. Two major pieces by Catalan artist Susana Solano, from the collections of the Frac MÉCA and the CAPC – Bordeaux Museum of Contemporary Art – have been brought together exceptionally by artist Jorge Satorre and presented to the public for the first time in several decades.
The two works in question, Pervigiles Popinae, 1986 and Perpendiculaire à la Garonne 1987, belong to a family of large-scale pieces made of sheet metal, cut iron and wire mesh. One refers to the realm of furniture, monumental and hieratic furniture, and the other to the realm of infrastructure, that of water, energy and the production of raw materials. These works entered the collections of the Frac MÉCA and the CAPC in the late 1980s, at a time when Susana Solano was receiving considerable attention in France and abroad, participating in Documenta in 1987 and 1992, the São Paulo Biennial in 1987 and the Venice Biennale in 1988 and 1993. This attention waned in the late 1990s, until young artists in Spain contributed to the rediscovery and updating of her work by inviting her to participate in exhibitions in recent years.
This exhibition, "What are we going to do, Jorge? ¿Qué vamos a hacer, Jorge?" offers a valuable opportunity to revisit the work and career of this leading figure in contemporary sculpture through the prism of artistic expression and the production of a new series of drawings by artist Jorge Satorre, who moved to Bilbao in 2022 and has begun a rich artistic dialogue with Susana Solano.
‘What are we going to do, Jorge?’ ‘¿Qué vamos a hacer, Jorge?’ inaugurates a cycle of exhibitions that is part of the Frac MÉCA's artistic project, which is set to unfold over several years and consists of inviting artists to take a fresh look at works in the collection whose visibility has faded and which are no longer associated with immediate artistic relevance. Through these artists' actions, the aim is to open files, relaunch trajectories and undertake in-depth, long-term work, while questioning the circulation of interrupted works and careers.
