Carreras Mugica, is a contemporary art gallery founded in 1995 by Pedro Carreras and Ignacio Múgica located in Bilbao in a beautiful exhibition space designed by Spanish architect Juan Herreros. In 2016 Guillermo Carreras, second generation of the family, joined the gallery and now acts as artistic director and responsible for the gallery's programme. Representing Basque and international artists, the gallery maintains a distinctive presence in the Basque Country. With a strong interest in sculpture, Carreras Mugica's intergenerational programme encourages dialogue and discursive conversation that supports both the recovery of historical positions and the presentation of artists in their early and mid-careers. We have represented Eduardo Chillida since 1995 and Richard Serra since 2005. In 2015 Carreras Mugica received the Art and Patronage prize awarded by ‘La Caixa’ for the best gallery. Since 1996 we have participated in ARCO Madrid, of whose committee we have been a member, and in numerous international fairs.
