CarrerasMugica is pleased to present EXERCISES ON ABSTRACTION, Erlea Maneros Zabala's third exhibition at the gallery from the 25th of March until the 29th of April. It shows 18 works of this series made with ink on offset paper.
→ Erlea Maneros ZabalaTheExercises on Abstraction series is made by immersing offset paper in water sprinkled with ink so that it leaves random impressions on the paper. Each image is unique but the series itself suggests unlimited and similarly trivial variations. The artist wanted to explore the possibility of creating an abstract work of art which by her method of production questions certain values associated with this style of painting: ideas about authorship, uniqueness, and abstract painting as a sublime mystical experience channeled through the genius of the artist’s hand.
The work of Erlea Maneros Zabala is based on series that revolve around the appropriation of specific images and the analysis of representationaldevices and reproduction techniques. As part of this analysis of the proliferation of images and documents in today’s society, the figurative is exposed to numerous processes that push it toward a type of deconstructive metamorphosis to abstraction. Sometimes the vehicle is drawing, other times it is painting, photography, collage or mural art, a diversity of formats that defy any recognizable or identifiable style.
