
Jessica Stockholder's work explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Her works are made from disparate objects, sometimes found, given or bought, sometimes created by herself, which she often intervenes on and assembles into colourful installations that at first glance may appear chaotic.
Jessica Stockholder (Seattle WA, 1959) lives and works in Chicago. She trained at The Camden School of Art (London), University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC), University of Victoria (Victoria, BC) and Yale University (New Haven, CT), where she taught from 1999 to 2011, and then from 2011 to 2024 at the University of Chicago. She has exhibited widely in North America and Europe at venues including Dia Art Foundation, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Open Air Museum, Belgium; The Contemporary Austin; The Power Plant, Toronto, Canada; Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, SITE Santa Fe; Venice Biennale; and Kunstmuseum St. Gallen among others. His work can be found in various museums and collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Art Gallery New South Wales, Sydney; Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art, Vancouver Art Gallery, and Stedelijk Museum.
